Bethany Helfman, Psy.D. is a clinical psychologist who has practiced in the field for over 20 years. She is founder and director of Helfman & Associates, P.C. in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan where she specializes in the treatment of adolescents, adults and families affected by eating disorders, mood and anxiety disorders, substance use disorders, personality disorders and related issues. Dr. Helfman supervises, publishes and lectures nationally on eating disorders, co-occurring substance use disorders and the use of technology in overcoming bar
riers to treatment. She serves as co-chair of the Eating Disorders and Substance Use Disorders Special Interest Group of the Academy for Eating Disorders (AED), is a presenting member of the National Eating Disorder Association (NEDA), and a contributing author to the book Treatment of Eating Disorders: Bridging the Research-Practice Gap (2010). She is also a longtime member of the American Psychological Association (APA), the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), the Michigan Psychological Association (MPA) and is a strong advocate for change related to the factors that make recovery from mental illness more difficult.
Dr. Helfman uses a highly personalized approach tailored to each patient. Therapy is guided by the latest research in evidence-based therapies.
